It is a well known fact that over 80% of all new or small ministries flounder in the first two years. Why is that? It is not because of the individual skills or competency, nor is it a lack of desire to succeed at the work God has called them to, as no one wants to fail. It is because of the lack of a one-on-one coaching relationship that helps them to implement their vision and expand upon their ministry. Leaders who are involved in a one-on-one coaching relationship are more focused, intentional and priority driven in their leadership; allowing them the time and resources to be engaged with their families and live a more vibrant healthy and fulfilling life.
Coach Profile
Too many leaders do great work for the kingdom, but miss out on the great joy and feelings of accomplishment that should go with it. My passion as a coach is helping ministry leaders experience a balanced lifestyle that will sustain them for the long-haul and to help them find joy on the journey.
My pastoral experience of twenty-two years consist of ten years as an Assistant Pastor and twelve years as the Senior Pastor and founder of Gods Love Christian Church. I understand the joys, conflicts, disappointments, and the often lonely position of a leader. My passion is to assist leaders of small to medium sized churches who face challenges just as heavy as those who lead in larger ministries, but often have fewer resources. The Lord has blessed me to be used as one that encourages and exhorts those that are in midst of struggle or crisis. One of question Im known for asking when ministering is, Is there a Hur in the house? Referencing Exodus 17, where the Hebrews were engaged in battle and Aaron and Hur held up the outstretched arms of their worn and exhausted leader, Moses, until the battle was won. There is nothing more exciting to me than to come along side a fellow laborer in the ministry, supporting and coaching them through their challenges to the actualization of success that causes them to come alive in the confidence, and mastery of the ministry that God has called them to.

The coaching relationship provides a regular support structure withen couragement and accountability to keep you focused and on track with your goals and objectives.
What is Coaching, Anyway?
If you want to understand coaching, take the mental images you have of mentoring, counseling, or consulting and put them aside! Coaching is completely different. The first difference youll notice when you work with a coach is that coaches are truly great listeners. Thats because the focus of the coaching conversation isnt on what the coach has to tell you, but on what the coach can draw out of you. Coaches believe that if we simply listen intently and ask intelligent questions, God will lead you to great insights and effective solutions to the challenges you face. You'll be amazed at what a great coach can draw out of you.
Soon, you'll also observe that coaches are masters at the art of asking questions. It is hard to objectively think through complex issues on your own (especially if it is an emotionally-charged issue), but it is amazing how much clearer your course becomes with someone asking you the right questions. The extensive training coaches receive is based on focusing on developing all levels of thinking within the cognitive domain, the thinking and intellectual center of the brain. The cognitive domain is divided into categories of thinking from the lowest level of simple recall to the most complex level of evaluating information.
The ability to foster these critical thinking skills, leads to improved attention to detail, increased comprehension and expanded problem solving skills. So, its not about the coach having the right answer, but asking the right questions. These questions are the key to unlocking what God has placed in your heart but needs to be release to your understanding. You'll also figure out early on that your coach is not a teller or an advice-giver. Coaches dont tell you what to do because we respect the stewardship God has given you over your own life.
The coaching approach is based on four core values:
1. The process of change starts with God and not with the coach
2. Always work with internal motivation instead of using guilt or pressure
3. Encourage others to take responsibility for their life and maximize growth
4. Wise counsel and instruction enables and empowers
The Coachs Role
Coaches do two primary things: they help you think things through, and they help you get things done. Coaches help you think by letting you freely explore your own ideas, by holding up the mirror, and by offering honest feedback. Because your coach is on your side, you can say what you are really thinking, thats often where the real solutions come from. This is all accomplished in a safe trusting climate. The coaching relationship also provides a structure for getting things done. You'll receive the kind of support, affirmation, accountability and follow-up structures you need to maximize your performance. You can get more done with a coach than you can on your own.
What a Coaching Relationship Looks Like
Here's a quick look at the nuts and bolts of the coaching process. I usually start with a free exploratory session, which gives you the chance to meet me, talk through objectives and expectations, and see if we are a good fit for each other. (If I'm not the best match for you, Im always happy to refer you to other great coaches I know!)
In our first session well spend some time building relationship, and then focus in on the growth objective you want to pursue. In each session, well develop a set of action steps you choose that will keep you moving forward toward that goal.
The coaching relationship provides a regular support structure with encouragement and accountability to keep you focused and on track with your goals and objectives. I generally meet with my clients by phone, three times a month for 45 minutes each time. E-mail contact and short spot calls of 5 minutes or less between sessions are included free of charge. Before the exploratory session, I'll send you a contract that includes these details, so we have it all in writing.
Background
After fifteen years of managing and owning three different janitorial businesses, my call and passion for pastoral ministry evoked me to pursue ministry on a full time bases. As Senior Pastor of God's Love Christian Church, and President of Freedom Bible College and Seminary of Indianapolis the need to assist my fellow laborers in Christ has greatly increased. During my last ten year tenure as Senior Pastor, ministers have been equipped and commissioned to begin their own churches. It has been a privilege to serve in the capacity of Church Consultant to many pastors in the city and out of state, over the past three years. My desire to help more people achieve at their highest potential in their God given ministry, has led me to begin the Morrisey for Christ Coaching Ministry. Realizing that not every one that is called to the ministry is a pastor, but every minister is called to be a leader, the role of a ministry coach is a great need. As your Ministry Coach, the tools and support provided will exemplify the excellence of Kingdom ministry and leadership. God called me to build the Kingdom of God following the work of Jesus Christ. Building ministry and building people is what I love to do. You may now consider me as an extension to your ministry. My schedule has been adjusted to accommodate both week day and weekend appointments with proper notice. Your success in ministry is my priority.
